Respondent 1: Criterion 3 – standard element 2 (relevance, reliability and authority in written sources); standard element 3 (differing interpretations of sources based on context, purpose and bias). P.22. These elements don’t reflect the learning outcomes on p.2.
Response/Way forward: There must always be a clear line of sight from Learning Outcomes through to Criteria and Standards. For example LO 13:
- use a range of appropriate evidence to support own arguments
would arguably require learners to use evidence that is both ‘relevant and reliable’ and be able to discuss ‘differing interpretations’. No change recommended to Learning Outcomes at this time – though may consider more explicit reference in future.
Respondent 1: Assess these elements (C3.2 and 3.3) internally, and replace exam requirements with elements 3.1 and 3.4.
Response/Way forward: The request regarding exam specs has been recommended and changed. C3 to be assessed on 3.1 and 3.4 only. It is a high level expectation that ‘relevance, reliability and authority’ be assessed in external exam conditions and unlikely that a response could address this element as well as 3.1 and 3.4 in the time frame and in the scope of an exam question.
Respondent 1: Edit Criterion 3, change to descriptor of C3, Standard 2
exchange the verbs ‘describes’ and ‘explains’ between the C and B standard in C3/S2
