Longlists of Prescribed Text Recommendations have been developed for both English ENG315117 and English Literature ENL315114.
The longlists comprise two parts: Part 1 new Prescribed text recommendations and Part 2 Prescribed Texts for removal.
PART 1: The recommended texts represent raw data have yet to be considered by the English ENGG315117 Text Selection Panel through the principles, criteria and processes identified in the TASC Procedure: Prescribed Texts for English Courses. Providers.
The list has been published for the purpose of transparency and for teacher information.
The list comprises qualified recommendations by providers with authorisation from their School/College Principals in line with the criteria specified in the TASC Procedure: Prescribed Texts for English Courses. Providers.
In consideration of the recommendations for 2020 please note that:
- The TASC Prescribed Text Procedure states through its overarching principles that: there will be no overlap between Level 3 English courses. In terms of English ENG315117 and English Literature ENL315114 there must be a clear distinction between texts and decisions have also been made on this basis.
- Prescribed Texts for the English ENG315117 course are selected from a range of contemporary cultural contexts, valued for their form and style and are recognised as having literary worth or artistic value. Contemporary texts for the purpose of this course refer to post WW11 texts.
- The distinction with English Literature being that prescribed texts are selected from both from the past [pre-20th Century] and from the present.
ACTION: If you consider that any new texts recommended on the lists are not appropriate for consideration by the panel – please contact me providing a rationale as to why by close of business March 29, 2019.
PART 2: Part 2 Prescribed Texts for removal
For both English ENG315117 and English Literature ENL315114 the texts identified have been on the respective Prescribed Text lists for 5(+) years, continued placement for a further three years from 2020 – 2021 is not in line with the assessment principles outlined in the TASC Procedure – Prescribed Texts for English Courses, as such they will be removed.
