As part of the Years 9 to 12 Project, the Department of Education is working on the development of a six month intensive English language program to prepare international students in Year 10 to successfully undertake Years 11 and 12 studies in Tasmania. This program will be delivered to full fee paying international students in three high schools as a pilot in 2020.
The interdisciplinary teaching and learning program will have a focus on language acquisition and will support students in their transition to learning and living in Tasmania.
The outcomes of the Interconnected pilot program will result in the production of: Year 9 and 10 Australian Curriculum EALD course documentation. After a project evaluation and review, accompanying teaching, learning and assessment resources which will be available for schools in 2021.
The Interconnected pilot program is based on Australian Curriculum content and will also provide the basis for the development of a suite of EALD courses which will provide a sequential learning pathway from Years 9 to 12 for the diverse EALD cohort of learners.
