The General Capabilities Short Qualifications are based on the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities which are at the centre of the Years 9 to 12 Curriculum Framework.
The learnings embedded within these General Capabilities Short Qualifications draw from the student’s ‘real world’ situations or lived experiences, developing skills and capabilities they will need for the future.
Students will increase their understanding, aptitude in the areas of critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, intercultural and ethical understanding.
The General Capabilities Short Qualifications are available to a range of Tasmanian Year 11 and 12 students.
TASC have provided Recognition of Formal Learning status for the six General Capabilities Short Qualifications for 2021
Each General Capabilities Short Qualification is at a TASC complexity level 2 and, on successful completion, a student will be recognised with two TCE points (dependant on the Formal Learning Recognition status being awarded by TASC for 2021 and beyond).
Each of the General Capabilities Short Qualifications are delivered for a duration of 20 hours. Resources are available through the Department of Education’s learning management tool, and can be taught through online, classroom or blended learning.
The Department of Education is the provider of the General Capabilities Short Qualifications, and as such maintains quality assurance, recording of overall assessments and issuing certificates to each student who successfully completed the General Capabilities Short Qualifications.
As the development of these qualifications was a cross sector initiative, they are available to the Department of Education, Catholic Education Tasmania and Independent Schools Tasmania.
If your school is considering or would like to deliver the one or more of the General Capabilities Short Qualifications in 2021, please complete this Expression of Interest Form.
