From 2015 onwards a range of English Writing teachers across sectors and across the state have requested amendment to current English Writing assessment criteria on the basis that:

  • The community of writing teachers has struggled with a set of criteria that has made the assessment of work very difficult, which in turn has some impact on student learning outcomes.
  • As the criteria are very confusing and repetitive, they have been inconsistently applied by teachers which has complicated both internal and external assessments.

TASC has supported a request for amendment to the criteria for English Writing ENW315114.As such Curriculum Services will support the cross sectoral work required and propose amendments to these criteria  for 2017.This work will take place over the second part of 2016.It will be overseen and developed by the Curriculum Teacher Leader of English working with a representative group of teachers from each sector (one per sector, plus the TASC Chief Marking Examiner). Appropriate consultation processes and relevant aspects of the course development process will be applied as per DOE Curriculum Services policy and procedures.

If you are interested in nominating to be part of a writing party to redesign course criteria, please make an expression of interest to lisa.davies@education.tas.gov.au by close of business Friday June 3 2016.
