In reviewing TASC accredited courses expiring in 2018, the Curriculum Teacher Leader team identified that the two English as an Additional Language/Dialect courses (Levels 1 and 2) would benefit from redevelopment to improve student learning outcomes. The concurrent redevelopment of the EAL/D Level 3 course was also seen as both strategic and desirable given the teacher feedback re this course and the efficiencies that can be realised in redeveloping the three courses as a suite e.g. one consultation process, the importance of identifying levels of complexity across the suite of courses, the development of sequential and compatible courses etc.
Feedback from a survey of EAL/D teachers conducted in early Term 3 has identified that there are some significant complexities across the three EAL/D courses that will be difficult to address in the short term. For this reason Curriculum Services will now be extending the period of consultation for the redevelopment of these courses with the intention that these courses will be available for teaching in 2019.
Curriculum Services thanks those teachers who provided feedback through the survey. A consultation and course development plan is being developed to ensure that all stakeholders have the opportunity to inform the development of these courses over the next 12 to 15 months.
